Helping to Make a Difference in Bawtry, Bircotes, Harworth, Loversall, Rossington, Tickhill, Wadworth, Woodfield Plantation and Dominion.

Joining Lions

Being a Lions club member is about committing the spare time that fits in around your work, family and life. The breadth of fundraising projects and community support cases provides opportunities to gain valuable life experience with chances to network and socialise with like-minded individuals and learn new skills. It also provides possibilities to use your existing skills and knowledge to enhance the club functions.

Ultimately the value of joining Lions is the satisfaction of giving back and adding value to your community and beyond. Lions are a local, national and international service that takes compassion, experience and learning very seriously. By joining Lions, you become a part of the largest service organisation in the world.

Who we are

Tickhill & District Lions Club (www.local-lions.org) was founded in 1978.  We are a group of volunteers, raising money and giving our time to help good causes across Bawtry, Bircotes, Harworth, Loversall, Rossington, Tickhill, Wadworth, Woodfield Plantation and Dominion Estates.

All members pay a small annual subscription fee of between £50-£60 and our President arranges an annual dinner.  These fees and the profit from the dinner cover our insurance and administration costs so that every penny of profit that is raised is donated to local, national and international causes.

Do you like to socialise and have fun whilst helping others? We are men and women from diverse backgrounds and ages from about 30 upwards with one thing in common - we want to make a difference.

Meetings

We meet for a Business Meeting on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays every month.  Additionally, our Activities and Welfare Committees both meet separately on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays.

The Activities Committee organises fundraising events and the Welfare Committee considers requests for our assistance. Both committees present their recommendations at our Business Meetings for members to vote.

Whilst meetings have a formal structure, they are light-hearted and provide a great chance to socialise. Fundraising events are good fun and if there is a fifth Tuesday in a month, we try to arrange a social event.

Fundraising

Throughout the year we arrange numerous fundraising events including taking Santa around the District in December, a firework extravaganza in November, Christmas and Easter raffles, Race Nights and several BBQ’s. These events all raise funds which we use to support good causes. We use our Facebook page to keep you up to date with forthcoming events and to let you know how your kind generosity has enabled us to support local community groups. More information

We Support Local

We mostly support local people and community groups.  Approximately 90% of the money donated to us locally is given back to the local community to support schools, community clubs, youth organisations, hospitals, hospices and individuals in need.

Cases are investigated thoroughly and all due diligence is carried out whenever we provide financial and welfare support.

We help at local and regional events such as the Lions Fun Day for the disabled and people with special needs. We also work with local care homes to help provide day trips for residents.

Some of the projects we have supported:

We Support National

Approximately 10% of the money donated to us is given to National Charities and organisations that have a positive impact on our local community such as:-

We Support International (LCIF)

A small contribution can make a massive difference. Local Lions clubs have direct access to Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) and every year we donate approximately 5% of our funds to international charities, usually through LCIF. Like all Lions clubs, LCIF covers all its own costs so that every penny we (and the other 46,000 Lions Clubs worldwide) donate to LCIF goes to straight to good causes. Where there is a need, anywhere in the world, LCIF can direct money to a local Lions Club. That local Lions Club is in the best place to decide how the money can be best used in the community where it is most needed.

New Member Reflections

Easy to join, perhaps a little daunting at the first meeting but made to feel immediately welcome. I was new to the area and becoming a Lion helped me integrate, broaden my horizons and meet new people.  I was amazed at how much was happening within the Lions but felt under no pressure to join in outside my comfort zone and because so much is happening there is always something that calls on your own strengths and tools you have and gives an opportunity to lead events, projects and community wellbeing.

The number of fundraising activities throughout the year is well beyond what I imagined, broad-ranging and worthwhile causes to support and nothing to stop you from promoting your own community support projects

Joining Lions has brought me fun and fellowship and knowing you’re part of a larger international club is reassuring. Also there is a excellent social side and there is always time for a chat during and after meetings.

P.S We also have fun doing it!
